Basic types of tables for pool
Basically, there are two kinds of pool tables played with billiards. They are English pool tables and the American pool tables.  pool tables

* English pool tables. English pool tables are typically 6 to 7 feet long and are mostly used in pubs and clubs. The balls used on these tables tend to be tiny in size, measuring between 1.5-2 inches and that is the same for the pockets. The pockets on the center are open allowing the players to pot even when they are at a tighter angle, however the pockets in the corners or the "jaws" are small.

* American pool tables - In comparison against English table, American tables are larger, usually from 7 feet to 9.5 feet long. The balls as well as the pockets are larger; they can easily accommodate balls up to 2-1/2 inches. Unlike jaws on English tables The jaws on this table are wide and allow you to shoot shots on the cushions. The center pockets are not fully open, allowing for straight cuts instead of straight shots.

Billiard tables that are based on the manufacturer of the table and also the substance
The playing surface beneath the cloth that makes up the billiard table, commonly called the 'bed' is the primary element that decides the playability and accuracy that the player can play. Different types of materials are used to make these beds, in which case the cost and endurance of the table varies. Three types are the most popular of billiard tables.

* Slate bed tables These tables are made of thick slates whose thickness varies from 19mm to 30mm. The slate bed tops are utilized on bigger and expensive tables which sometimes accommodate 2-3 beds. These tables offer an smooth playing surface which lets the balls to smoothly roll at precise directions and that is why they are the only table tops that are used during tournaments.

Slate beds are durable than any other tops and withstand water and moisture. The fabric attached to this top could be worn out over time, but it is easily replaced. The only disadvantage of these tops is that they are very heavy, thus the installation and transportation becomes heavy.

* Slatron bed tables - Slatron bed tables, made of a synthetic component called slatron is a synthetic replacement for slate beds. Slatron is comprised of the plastic layer which is enclosed by particle board. Although the quality of slatron beds is far below the slate beds, they are durable than any other synthetic beds. They are more affordable, light in weight and consequently are easier to transport and install.

The disadvantage of slatron table beds is their tendency to decay over time causing the table to warp. Also, since they're relatively light and slender in weight, the table could slide over when someone leans on it with force. But good quality slate tops last long and cost less compared to slate tops.  billiard table

* MDF bed tables - Medium density fibreboard (MDF) bed is a different type of synthetic bed used as an alternative that is less expensive than slate beds. MDF surfaces are produced by compressing tiny pieces of wood or saw dust with pressure and heat. They are just like particle boards that are used in beds made of slatron. MDF beds are also less heavy and repairs are cheap.

If you want to buy a billiard board at low costs, these synthetic boards are the best choice. Additionally, they are available in small sizes, and, therefore they can fit into smaller rooms. To protect them from wearing and warping the right way, care must be taken. They must be kept clear of moisture, water and humid environments.

Billiard tables built around the mechanism
Some billiard tables will have internal mechanisms that make it easy for the players to retrieve balls or to control the game. They are generally of two kinds namely

* Drop pocket tables There is no mechanism utilized in these tables. The balls go to sit in the pockets. After every game , players have to get them out of the pockets. American pool tables generally include drop pockets.

* Tables for returning balls - In these tables, once the balls are potted inside, an inbuilt system is able to send every ball that is pocketed into the collection chamber, where the balls will be arranged according on their numbers. The balls stay inside the chamber until next game starts. There are two types of tables for returning balls available in the market.

Free play tables - After the bowl, the balls return to the table's holding area that is located at the top of the table. These tables are ideal to use at home, in workplaces, and clubs.

Coin-operated tables tables are like free play ones except for one mechanism inbuilt. Players must put in a coin to take the balls and play another game. The mechanism could be electronic or mechanical. Coin-operated tables can be used in commercial areas.

Billiard tables designed specifically for homes
Other than the conventional or commercial-grade billiards tables, there are some tables designed to suit the homes.

* Pool dining table If you're running out of space the pool table can be a great help. As the name says, it is a table for dining and playing billiards. It is specially constructed in a manner that it can be used for both the purpose. With the addition of to the top of the table, the table converts into a dining table. For playing pool you can easily remove that table top.

• Folding table for pool - You can play pool wherever you'd like when you have a pool table that folds. The leg system that folds on these tables makes it easier to fold them away when they are not in use. The tables that fold are usually made of MDF that makes them lighter, and they are easier to move around.  used pool tables
